About the firm

A modern law firm built on practical advice and honest communication.

Who we are

A relationship-driven firm, based in Ikeja, Lagos

Kanmi Isola Osobu & Company is a modern legal service provider. The firm is driven by the experience and qualifications of its Partners, Associates and Consultants.

Our attitude is business-like, and we make sure our solutions are practical. We offer first-class advice and we take care over how it is carried out.

Many lawyers see their job as simply documenting a client's deal. We do not. We look for creative solutions to problems and we help develop the strategy and structure of a transaction, working alongside you and your colleagues.

We understand the commercial, managerial and operational challenges your company faces every day, and we keep our communication open and honest at all times. We have real experience with start-ups, growing companies and established businesses.

Nigerian and foreign clients routinely instruct us as their Solicitors, Barristers and Advisers. Our experience is strongest in Nigerian property law and practice, corporate and commercial law, human rights, and labour and employment law.

Our work and the way we deliver it have earned the firm a reputation as one of the young leading law firms in Nigeria, with a busy and successful practice.

Our work

Some of the clients we have worked for

Here is a short summary of the work we have done for some of our corporate clients.

Litigation

National Identity Management Commission

The agency in charge of digital identity management in Nigeria. We have defended it in several cases. In the very first one, someone challenged its demand for statutory fees to modify a date of birth, and we defended it successfully.

Due diligence and title registration

Sankore Investment Limited

An investment company. We work with its real estate arm, carrying out due diligence on properties it plans to acquire and handling title registration.

Debt recovery

Briscoe Properties Limited

A company in the Briscoe Group, working in real estate and facility management. A counterparty refused to pay for facility management services under an agreement, so Briscoe retained us to recover the money. We have taken the steps set out in the Lagos State High Court rules and will file an action if they do not succeed.

Commercial litigation

Trimidan Nigeria Limited

Trimidan imports and sells tricycles. In 2012 it won a contract to supply 1,000 tricycles to the Niger State Government, on condition that it obtained an Advance Payment Guarantee from a reputable bank. The bank went beyond the guarantee and took over performance of the contract, leaving our client with a heavy loss. We challenged the breach in court and won a favourable judgment. It is now on appeal at the Court of Appeal, Ibadan Division.

Company secretarial and probate

General Oil Limited

An oil and gas company in the downstream sector. We handle its company secretarial work, including searches, filings and due diligence. When it restructured, its founder and majority shareholder had passed away. We obtained letters of administration over his shares, which let us apply to re-allot them to his beneficiaries and appoint them as directors.

Debt recovery

IBSG Limited

IBSG deals in telecommunications equipment and was owed millions of naira by a company it had supplied and installed equipment for. We petitioned the Special Fraud Unit and the entire debt was recovered.

Advisory and dispute resolution

Chain Reactions Limited

A media and advertising company. We advise it on a range of legal issues involving third parties and have represented it in a few cases, where we negotiated out-of-court settlements on its instructions.

Incorporation and contracts

Wondars Mills Limited

A Nigerian company that produces and distributes animal feed and related products. We incorporated the company. Once it started operating, we drafted and reviewed its agreements with suppliers and distributors and advised whenever it asked.

Licensing and data protection

Liberta Leasing Limited

A finance company that serves its customers through a lifestyle app called Nirra. As its solicitors, we handle its licensing and compliance, including a Data Protection Impact Assessment that led to an Audit Trust Mark from the relevant government agency.

Advisory and contracts

Digital Plus Consulting

A financial software development and implementation company, focused on cryptocurrency trading. We have advised it on several legal issues and reviewed agreements between the company and businesses interested in acquiring its software.
